"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you" Luke 6:38

I received my AM digest of news this morning and was pleasantly surprised as I watched a true story about a recent lottery winner who won a $150,000.00 Powerball lottery. The winner donated her entire winning to charities by dividing money up between three (3) different nonprofits. The lottery winner looked beyond her desires and saw the needs of others. That's what we call Passing it Forward. When was the last time you heard about a lottery winner giving away all of the winnings and keeping absolutely nothing for him/herself? I'm certainly not saying that's the way every lottery winner should act, but I am saying that every person who's in a position to help others should, by God's direction, do precisely that.

A.W. Tozer so eloquently said, "True progress involves relinquishing self-centeredness to make room for God's work, a concept of 'passing it forward' by allowing God to work through you to bless others." Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you".

I will never forget a friend who was also a pastor. He and I served on the same board. After meeting and getting to know each other, we decided to set aside time monthly for fellowship. He informed me that his tithes and offerings combined were then at 50% of his salary. That's correct, and it's not a typo; he was regularly giving 50% of his salary back to the Lord every pay period. As he told me his story, he laughed and said, "I only have one problem. As fast as I give it out, more comes in." God was literally pressing down and shaking together every good measure and returning it to him with interest. Both the lottery winner and my good friend reminded me of the blessings associated with giving. "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." II Corinthians 9:7
