During my personal devotional time today, I came across a listing of stories about people who never gave up. I would like to share a few of their stories with you over the next few days. Today, let's begin with Thomas Edison.
When Edison was in the first grade, his teachers expelled him from school and told his parents he was too stupid and mentally retarded and not suitable to receive an education. Can you imagine school officials making such claims about your child or children? Believe it or not, it happened to Thomas Edison's parents.
Since it was determined that Edison was stupid, mentally retarded, and not suitable to receive an education, he spent many hours experimenting in the family garage, as evidenced by his trying 10,000 different experiments before he came up with a solution and invented the world’s first electric globe. Edison's accomplishments did not stop there. Over the course of his lifetime, he patented 1093 inventions. So much for being labeled as stupid, mentally retarded, and unsuitable for obtaining an education.
Remember the words of Winston Churchill, who said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." When you know you're being led by God, I encourage you to continue and never give up.
