If you missed the College Football Championship Game between Indiana and Miami last night, you missed what will go down as one of the most gutsy calls and plays in college football history. On fourth down, the quarterback (Fernando Mendoza) ran a quarterback sneak and was hit twice by defenders before going airborne and launching himself into the inzone. The quarterback didn't score because of great blocking; he scored because of true grit. Simply put, Fernando Mendoza was not going to be stopped, no matter what. The young man demonstrated what we call true grit today. That play reverberated across America last night, and the fans went so crazy, I thought the stadium was going to collapse.
This morning, I had to look up the definition of the word "Grit," which means "Perseverance characterized by courage, determination, and resilience to overcome obstacles without giving up." Just as Fernando Mendoza was determined to get to that inzone, you should be as determined to overcome obstacles in your life, whatever those obstacles may be. Remember, just as scripture says, you too have grit to overcome:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
