Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." What's happening in Minnesota and other states matters. To date, approximately 100 clergy members, ranging from pastors to other faith-based leaders, have been arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These men and women of faith refuse to be silent when their voices must be heard and their peaceful protests exemplified.

Today, I would like to ask my subscribers to continue praying for every prayer request listed on yesterday's Discipleship Devotional, and while you're at it, please add the clergy to that list. Remember, peaceful/nonviolent protests can be a transformative force for change; the kind of change that leads to healing. If you're led by God to engage in peaceful/nonviolent protests, please be willing to participate in the healing process as well by shifting your hurt, anger, and frustration to inspiration, versatility, and empathy.

Let's continue to pray for the following:

  • Pray for Renee Good and her family.
  • Pray for Alex Pretti and his family.
  • Pray that the clergy and other faith-based leaders remain strong as they continue the fight for peace.
  • Pray that Americans learn to listen to and talk to each other, especially during opposing viewpoints.
  • Pray for the state of Minnesota.
  • Pray for the state of Maine.
  • Pray that we cultivate empathy by exercising open minds and demonstrating a welcoming spirit to strangers.
  • Pray that we learn and understand that we have more in common than we realize.

Again, I say, pray for the heart and soul of America.
